The California Firehawks wasted an inspired, 8-inning effort from starter David Sears, falling, 2-1, to the Anchorage Wheelers at Balto Memorial Field at The Igloo. Scud Muffin picked up the win with 7.2 innings of work. He allowed 1 run on 8 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 3. On the season, he is now 9-7. George Fantobens picked up the save for Anchorage, his 9th of the year.
Joey Maxx had a big 2-run home run for the Wheelers in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Anchorage trailing 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a circle change from David Sears, who is tied for 7th in the MiLPBE in quality starts with 13, and swatted a home run to center. It was his 12th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Wheelers ahead, 2-1.
Anchorage manager said his team played a "no nonsense" game.
With the win, the Wheelers hiked their record to 56-40.
