Almost There: State College On Cusp of SF Triumph After 5-0 Win
State College Swift Steeds manager knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 21-year-old right-hander Kris Rice silenced the host Florida Flamingos at Florida Man Park. The Swift Steeds shut out the Flamingos by a final score of 5-0, to give the Swift Steeds a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Semi-FInals.

The Swift Steeds liked what they saw from Rice. The 21-year- old pitcher had a commanding presence on the mound, limiting the Flamingos to no runs on 2 hits over 7 innings, and striking out 4.

Rice said his team "played with determination."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Florida Man Park in Providence.
