Bears Sneak Past Wheelers, 2-1

The Brew City Bears and Anchorage Wheelers put on a pitchers' duel.
The Brew City Bears had to overcome a fine effort from Anchorage pitcher Scud Muffin to win, 2-1, at Balto Memorial Field at The Igloo. Muffin went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Brew City reliever Smokey Schlitz [BOT] got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Jiggs Kingman was tagged with the loss.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the ninth, with the game tied, Alex Gilleyes was at the plate when Brew City scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Bears to go in front, 2-1.
"Good ballgame," said Anchorage manager . "But we came up on the short end."
The loss drops the Wheelers to 2-3.
