Apex Nip Scorpions, 4-3
|
The Indianapolis Apex picked up a win at The Brickyard, knocking off the Death Valley Scorpions, 4-3. On the mound for Indianapolis was left-hander Calm Chicken. He played a key role in the triumph. The winner was Chicken. He threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Bandit Keith. James Noble was credited with the save for Indianapolis, his 3rd of the season.
The Apex got a big at-bat from right fielder Harry Callahan. For the game, Callahan went 1 for 2 with a double and a walk, while adding 3 RBI. In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 8th double of the season gave Indianapolis a 3-2 lead.
Death Valley manager said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The Apex, now 17-16, know that wins in June count the same as wins in September.
