Indianapolis left fielder Edward Mackinlay played a vital role in his team's 10-9 conquest of Cancun. He went 2 for 4 with a double and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for Indianapolis. Skyler Stevens picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 2-2. Samuel Smoltz suffered the loss. The win lifted the Indianapolis record to 25-19.

The decisive blow was delivered by Leon Rosenthal in the bottom of the 11th when he hit a run-scoring double off 25-year old left-handed pitcher Samuel Smoltz to win the game for Indianapolis. The home crowd went nuts.

"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Mackinlay, "but we got it done."
