Rougarous Defeat Vandals, 4-2
|
The Vancouver Vandals got a superb performance from pitcher Chuck Nasty. Still, it wasn't enough to beat New Orleans. The Rougarous won the game, 4-2. Nasty threw 6.1 innings of shutout ball. Dizzy Stoner, now 4-5, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 5 hits in 3.1 innings. The Rougarous raised their record to 21-31.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Jefferson Steelflex came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Vancouver pitcher Retsnomekalyag Kove, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting New Orleans on top, 4-2.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Steelflex told a New Orleans Gazette reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
