Death Valley starter Always A. Bummus put a stranglehold on the Providence offense. The left-hander had complete command of his changeup in leading the Scorpions to a 4-1 win. Romeo Rosas, 1-2, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. The first-place Scorpions have won 5 consecutive games.

With runs few and far between, the Scorpions had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Death Valley came in the top of the tenth inning, when second baseman Bass Reeves delivered a run-scoring double. The double was hit off Roman Melgar and made the score 2-1, Scorpions. Reeves was 1-5 with a double.

"The vibe's good," said Death Valley manager . "We've got to keep it going."
