The Death Valley Scorpions did just enough to secure a victory over the Cancun Toros, 5-4, at El Coliseo de los Toros. Nobody did more than pitcher Always A. Bummus. Bummus, the winner, moves to 8-3. He threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 3 walks. The Champions Conference West-leading Scorpions are 45-20.

The Scorpions got a big hit from center fielder Yvonne Escence. In the top of the eighth, Escence pounded a run-scoring double to left. His 19th double of the season put the Scorpions ahead, 5-0.

"Always A. just went about his business, throwing strikes," said Death Valley manager .
