Detroit Loss Tarnishes Fine Game by Slamous
The Indianapolis Apex spoiled a good performance by Detroit catcher Biff Slamous, bumping off Detroit, 13-7, at The Brickyard. Slamous slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. With the win, Indianapolis upped its record to 35-35.

The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Brent Goldberg came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Detroit pitcher Thorne Belfour, he hit a full count fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Indianapolis on top, 9-7.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Goldberg.
